DIY – Photo Bungee Cable Ties

Some call it photo whips (like the trademark Red Whips from Think Tank) but I prefer photo cable ties.

With these rubber bands it is possible to organize cables, quickly and easily, free of tangles. It allows you to attach cables to a tripod or to attach a tripod to a backpack or even a flash to a tripod that does not have a hotshoe support. Its uses are endless.

Its easy to make your own custom length cord ties.

Material:

Shock cord / Elastic cord between 3mm to 5mm; Amazon link
Cord Lock; Amazon link

This material can be found in haberdashery shops or reusing materials from old things. In my case, I took the elastic cord of an old tent rod. The locks were recovered from clothes and backpacks that went to trash.

Cut the elastic cord in your desired lenght, join the ends and tie a knot.

Put the lock on the other side of the loop and the elastic cable organizer is ready.

It’s been called the most spectacular show on earth. I’m talking about the northern lights, or aurora borealis, those mysterious lights that dance across the night sky in the wintertime. With its proximity to the Arctic Circle, Iceland is one of the best places on earth to witness this incredible phenomenon.

Þúfa in Icelandic actually means a very tiny knoll, but here it is a hill. It is an 8 meter high hill and 26 meters in diameter. From the ground, there is a spiral path around the hill to walk up to the top. The path is a bit narrow, and caution is needed if you meet another person going down. At the top, there is a tiny shack similar to the old shacks that Icelanders used to dry fish. If there is a strong and bad smell while walking to the top of the hill, a fish is being dried in the small shack. According to the artist, it is a place for peace and meditation in the city, at least for those who dare to “climb the mountain”. It is a reference to everything simple, old and quality of life.

Many Reykjavik houses are colourful but the colour is necessary because most buildings look more like garages. This is mainly due to the island’s lack of natural raw building materials such as wood and stone, so most buildings are made from concrete and corrugated steel.

Por volta do ano de 1900, os islandeses eram um dos povos mais pobres da Europa. A produção nacional per capita era metade da média da Europa Ocidental.

Na antiga sociedade rural, muitas gerações viviam juntas sob um mesmo tecto e a casa era o centro de produção, consumo, educação e entretenimento. Tudo isso mudou no século XX. Hoje, uma casa geralmente abriga um casal e os seus filhos, ou uma pessoa sozinha. A produção, educação e entretenimento mudaram-se para fora do lar e, até certo ponto, também o consumo.

O Photomaton ou a cabine de fotos tipo passe, que representa a cultura de consumo do século 20, foi fabricado na Alemanha. Foi comprado em 1930 pelo fotógrafo Ólafu Magnússon e foi utilizado até 1997.

DIY – Suporte de Ombro para Câmara

Um suporte para ombro permite filmar em andamento ou mesmo parado com a câmara estabilizada. Este suporte permite ter no final vídeos com menos movimentos indesejados. O suporte melhora também o conforto do operador de câmara.

Material usado:

* Tubos de pvc e uniões;

* Tubo de espuma isolante;

* Punhos de bicicleta em espuma;

* Peso de halter de 1.25kg;

* Abraçadeiras de encaixe para tubo pvc;

* Vários parafusos e porcas;

* Parafuso de cabeça de tripé;

* Uma pequena placa de madeira ou metal;

* Cabeça de tripé com engate rápido;

* Spray preto para plástico;

* Cola de contacto ou de pvc;

Nas imagens seguintes podem ver com detalhe o suporte criado, tudo com materiais que tinha por casa. Apenas os punhos de bicicleta foram comprados propositadamente para este projecto. Os tubos de pvc e uniões faziam parte de um cesto de roupa do ikea que já não era usado.

Muita gente não conhece mas mesmo perto da estação de Santa Apolónia existe uma loja que vende todo o tipo de artigos fotográficos analógicos e antigos.

Aqui podemos encontrar de tudo, sejam máquinas de 35mm, leicas, grande formato, equipamento de revelação e ampliação ou filmes fora do prazo.

Existe ainda a opção de alugar de algum material, seja analógico ou digital, mas para estar a par de tudo que está disponível, nada como receber todos os meses a listagem de material fotográfico por mail.
